The former Hulme Library closed following the first round of town hall cuts in 2011. The library, after its opening in March 2015, now provides shelter for the homeless overnight and further investigation for potential empty buildings rising public and political concern over homelessness.
As for the Hulme library, it is now based in Moss Side Leisure Centre on Hulme High Street.
Leaving Stretford road's only source to series of bookshelves and a communal space to "learn and play" is the Birley campus which is partially accessible for the Hulme community at its best out of term times and weekends, leaving Hulme uncomfortable and uneasy to integrate with the students.
