For the redevelopment of Hulme, the Manchester City Council decided to launch "a guide to development, Hulme, Manchester"; framing all the requirements the future designs of Hulme should follow. A section on permeability states:
"There should be variety of routes that people can choose when travelling through the area."
Giving the user choice of the same route allows them to feel under control and empowered. This is vital to mine and my practice's beliefs, the user experience from which in this context would be mature students and students with families that would be fragile to certain circumstances

The Ribbon
Ribbon can extend into the primary school as part of their playing ground. Not only directly and safely connecting the kids into the library but also into some of their homes.
Extension of the Ribbon is about connecting the students with the community and therefore the library, as a source of publice space combines with the student learning spaces.
Using existing infrastructure to aid the construction process of the Ribbon as well as financial costs. Pedestrian bridge has been neglected and this can be a good opportunity for its rebirth.

As part of the broader scheme and aim of this project, the Ribbon is essentially the binding source of the community.
Hulme has stand by its community since the beginning and they have made drastic changes just by the power of them working as a team as this monument on the grounds of Hulme Park show.
A strong sense of community is the key drive to the commence of Project Ribbon. To give hand in hand, as a crowdfunded project, the Ribbon has the potential to expand as the community grows. If the Dutch can do it, so can Hulme!
